The Best Personality Tests (According To A Life Skills Coach)

Are you having trouble following-through on you goals? Are you feeling unmotivated? Apathetic?

It could be because your goals aren't truly in alignment with you and what you want. In order to figure that out, first you need to know yourself.

Remember, the best Glow Up has you shining from the inside out! That’s why, in my Bright Future Blueprint program, we always start with introspective work. We start with YOU.

A fun way to get to know yourself a little better is personality tests.

Maybe you haven’t done one in a while. Maybe the last personality test you did was in Seventeen magazine sandwiched between a perfume ad and an article about this summer's signature lip colour.

Personally, I love personality tests! Not the ones you'll find in Seventeen Magazine, but ones developed by folks with a degree or certification or two under their belt. Not because I think they're always 100% accurate! But they do...

  • encourage us to get curious about ourselves

  • help us look at our behaviours with a fresh perspective

My favourite free questionnaires are:

Myers-Briggs

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) examines how you perceive the world and make decisions. The test assigns four categories: introversion or extraversion, sensing or intuition, thinking or feeling, and judging or perceiving. You're assigned one letter from each category which creates a four-letter test result (like "INFJ" or "ENFP").

Enneagram

The Enneagram Personality model has nine interconnected personality types. These are represented by the points of a geometric figure called an enneagram, which indicate connections between the types.

The Four Tendencies

🌞Click here for the Four Tendencies quiz!

The Four Tendencies are four personality profiles created by Gretchen Ruben in her book The Four Tendencies.

They are:

Upholders: They want to know what should be done.
Questioners: They want justifications.
Obligers: They need accountability.
Rebels: They want freedom to do something their own way.

Once you have your personality type results, ask yourself these questions:

  • How are your results the same or different across the different tests?

  • Do the results surprise you?

  • Do the results feel accurate?

  • Is there a personality trait in the results that you don't like or feel is unflattering?

  • Is there something that hits home?

  • Is there something that's just flat out wrong?

Meditate, journal, have a think during a hot shower or while on a treadmill. Whatever works for you! In the end, you’ll know yourself a little bit better than you did before.
